Crown Jewels

I want to invite you to an wonderful exhibition, but you gotta hurry, because it only will be opened for a limited time! Every five years, people from around the globe can see one of the most important Czech national treasure – the Czech Crown Jewels. Totally seven important people of the Czech republic are needed to open the doors to the chamber, where they are stored, including the president (currently Vaclav Klaus) and the mayor of Prague (now Pavel Bem). They are one of the symbols of the Czech state, while the kings ruled our country, they wore them during their leadership. They include the St. Wenceslas Crown of Charles the IV with its case and cushion, the orb with its case, the coronation mantle, an ermine stole, belt and maniple.

Exhibion runs from the 19th to 29th April in Old Royal Palace - Vladislav Hall (Stary kralovsky palac - Vladislavsky sal). For information visit: www.pis.cz

The crown is named and dedicated after the patron of the Czech lands (Bohemia) Saint Wenceslav of the „Premyslovci“ dynasty, which ruled our country many hundred years ago and had crucial effect on the evolution of the former Czech kingdom. The crown has an unusual design, with vertical fleurs-de-list standing at the front, back and sides. Made from gold and precious stones, its weight is 2.475 grams. It was made for King Charles IV in 1346. Since 1867 it has been stored in St.Vitus Cathedral of Prague Castle.
