About Czech Republic

The Czech Republic (Czech: Česká republika, formerly known as Czechoslovakia), a member state of the European Union (since May 1, 2004), is a landlocked country in Central Europe. The country has borders with Poland to the north, Germany to the northwest and west, Austria to the south, and Slovakia to the east. The historic city of Prague (Czech: Praha), a major tourist attraction, is its capital and largest city. Other major cities include Brno, Ostrava, Zlín, Plzeň, Pardubice, Hradec Králové, České Budějovice, Liberec, Olomouc, and Ústí nad Labem.

The (English and Czech) name "Czechia" is contained in a Czech legally binding standard for names of countries of the world and other geographical names as a normal equivalent of other short names (such as France, Germany etc.); the Czech equivalent "Česko" has been contained in a longer version of the Dictionary of the Czech language of the Czech Academy of Sciences since the 1970s.

 

Cesky Krumlov (Český Krumlov)

Cesky Krumlov in (German: Krumau an der Moldau / Böhmisch Krumau) is a small city in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, best known for the fine architecture and art of the historic old town and Krumlov Castle.The city is named Český Krumlov ("Bohemian Krumlov") to differentiate it from Moravský Krumlov ("Moravian Krumlov") in the southeast of the country.

Plzeň (Czech name) or Pilsen (German equivalent, sometimes used in English) is a city in western Bohemia in the Czech Republic. It is the capital of the Plzeň Region and the fourth-most-populous city in the Czech Republic. It is located about 90 km west of Prague. Pilsen is also well-known for the Pilsner Urquell (since 1842) and Gambrinus (since 1869) breweries. The pilsener style of beer, based on Pilsner Urquell, was developed in Pilsen in the 19th century.
 

Brno City in Moravia, Czech Republic

Brno is a political and a cultural hub of the South Moravian Region. At the same time, it represents the centre of the province of Moravia, one of the historic lands of the Czech Crown. It is situated at the crossroads of ancient trade routes which have joined the North and South European civilizations for centuries. Thanks to its location between the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and the Southern Moravian lowlands, Brno enjoys a very pleasant and moderate climate.
