Prague International Marathon

In the second weekend in May, everybody, who loves sport and healthy life style was in our capital. As a main point of the activities, Prague hosted one of the 10 world’s most famous marathons - Prague International Marathon (PIM), the most important running event in Czech Republic.

On Sunday, 11th of May over than 5.000 runners from 71 different countries started their race. They have started at Old Town Square and a long distance (little more than 42 km) stood efore them. They had to run across Prague‘s most known ancient monuments (Charles Bridge for example) and finally return to Old Town Square to finish.

After few first kilometres, it was clear who will be amongst the winners. In the men´s category, the first five positions were „reserved“ for runners from Kenya. Gold medal was given to Kenneth Mungara with time 2 hours and 11 minutes. Ten minutes after, our best runner finished and it was 40 years old runner Robert Stefko (Slovakian native, who gain the czech citizenship). Woman´s run win Russian Julamanovova and overtake three Kenyan womans and others crossbar, Czech representative Ivana Martincova was 7th.

But this event was not only just about the marathon. The most interesting things were concetrated at the Marathon Sport Expo 2008/Incheba Expo at Holesovice area. You could have find sport fair there with many special sport clothes, shoes and others utilities. For refreshment you could have go to the unsual place - Sky Bar, hosted by favourite Czech beer Staropramen with 22 seats at the space of 50 metres, which were reserved for everybody who won in one of many contest. And Prague was not beating just in rhytm of runners, you could have visit official Marathon Music Fest with many stages - Samba procession, Alternative etc. And was not overjoyed with the music or running, then could have tried jumping with 7times miles shoes (as Czech fairy-tales heroes).
