After its successful exhibition tent in Wenceslas Square last year (visited by over 160 000 people), the gallery rented a classical exhibition hall. Over 200 platinum photographs by Robert Vano deserve a traditional exhibition venue, which Mánes Gallery Prague undoubtedly is. The extensive retrospective exhibition is being held to mark the author’s 60th birthday anniversary last year and it presents his works from 1968 up to present. On the contrary, I am lucky that I still enjoy it and I don’t even know why. I do the same thing all the time, just sometimes I change places. I cannot imagine that I would be doing something else,” said Robert Vano, who was born in 1948 in Nové Zámky, Slovakia. In 1967, shortly after leaving secondary school at the age of nineteen, he emigrated through Italy to the USA. He worked in New York as a hairdresser and makeup artist. He assisted famous fashion photographers, such as Horst P. Horst, Marco Glaviano, Catel, Fallai, Nadír aand Malerbi. In 1984 he started working as a freelance photographer in New York, Paris and Milan. His works can be found in such magazines as Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan and others. Besides numerous individual exhibitions he also took part in group exhibitions. An interview with Robert Vano by David Hrbek was published as a book in 2008 (Někdy Ráj). At present, he is working in the modelling agency Czechoslovak Models. On the occasion of the exhibition an extensive photographic publication has come out in Czech and English languages called The Platinum Collection for 990 CZK. A series of accompanying events is prepared as well. Comments (0)
